Many possible decisions might be made in the future of sex selection through PGD. A few possible paths might be taken as more people become aware of using PGD to choose if their baby will be a boy or girl at almost a 100% success rate.
- Expansion of PGD into other countries - Currently, there are bans in different countries for sex selection due to PGD because it is considered "unethical" in those countries. In the future, some countries may lift those bans, but it would most likely be strictly regulated. The United States currently does not regulate PGD, and it will possibly stay that way. Though this decision allows families to "balance" the number of girls and boys, it will result in even more embryos being destroyed. In the near future, PGD will most likely not be used for hair color, eye color, and other traits. These traits are more difficult to find from a scientific standpoint.
- PGD for sex selection remaining banned - Due to a huge push against PGD use for sex selection, some countries may still have the ban placed. Though this decision is a relief to many opposers who don't want embryos to be wasted in an "unnatural" process, some families will find ways to dodge around their country's regulations against PGD. There have been a few instances where families have traveled to the United States to have a baby in their desired gender, then traveling back to their home country. If this future branches out this way, it is very likely that more families will travel to countries where PGD is approved for sex selection in order to fulfill their life goals of having a child in the desired gender.
